The projects implemented by MPT seek to redress the gender dynamics which have pushed women to the periphery of development and decision making processes at local government level. Conceptualization of gender is still not synchronized with some traditionalist who are conservative on female leadership. Masakhaneni uses a bottom up approach in dealing with gender issues.

It is hoped that when issues of gender are taken into consideration at community level decision making bodies, they are likely to cascade to policy formulation at national level. As part of promotion of human rights, Masakhaneni advances the cause that women recognize and value their contribution to household. They are capacitated on leadership and provided with safe spaces to deliberate on issues that affect them.
